Big AK Snow Series Jan 19 & 20

BIG Alaska NEWS

Sat Jan 19 Rail Jam 1 in the Pumpstation 3 Park at Alyeska. Open to snowboarders and skiers--the age groups are different for Rail Jam than any other event: 9 and under, 10-13, 14 and older, Open class: separate groups for skiers and snowboarders, males and females. Register online now, it closes midnight Thursday. Or register with me in the Tramway Cafe 1:30-2 pm and pick up your bib. Contest will start at 3 pm and the jib line has been set by our friends in the Park Crew!
Cost $20 plus your USASA membership if you're not already registered. If I owe you from the first Slope, please let me know when you register and we can credit that toward your entry fee.
Lots of great prizes from sponsors HCSC, Windell's, Hi Chew candy, Sims, etc.

Sunday Jan 20 alpine racing on Race Trail. Open to snowboarders only. If you look at Big Alaska schedule at www.usasa.org you will see 4 events listed for Jan 20. Register online for the 2 that let you (total cost of $40) and the other 2 will be FREE. We will run Slalom 1 and 2, and reset for Giant Slalom 1 and 2. This Alyeska forced schedule change means that when you complete all 4 races you will probably be qualified for Nationals in these 2 events. It's a lot of runs in a day, so we'll take a hard look at how many people are in your age group and we may adjust the number of runs required depending on the snow conditions  In person registration and bib pick up will be 9:30-10 in the Day Lodge with inspection as soon as the course is set, 11 am. Cost $40 for the day.  Prizes for alpine events too.

Filming and Sponsorship meeting

Thursday night lets all meet at Josh's house for a legit meeting about filming and Sponsorships.  He also wants to talk about the rider profiles created for each of you and how to keep you sponsors up to date with everything you are doing.

You all should have the address but if you need directions just give any of the coaches a call.

USASA BIG AK Slalom1 & 2, Jan 6 CANCELLED

USASA Big AK Slalom 1 & 2 Sunday, Jan 6 CANCELLED Alyeska is unable to provide a timing system this week. We will reschedule the Slalom races to Sunday, Jan 20 and will run GS 1 & 2 and Slalom 1 & 2 on the same day with a lunch break.

Anybody that knows anything about snowboarding will be stoked to hear that Jason Borgstede is our announcer this year! Seen the videos? Been to Nationals? Love Alaska? Feel the love!

Low, low entry fee of $5 (plus your USASA membership) for this first contest of the season. Fun has never been so affordable.

Saturday, Jan 5, you must be registered by 10 am, you can fill out and pay for your USASA membership in person, on paper (see below for 3 membership activation options).

IN-PERSON registration 9:15 – 10 am under the USASA tent next to the bottom of Chair 3. You must have a parent signature on 3 forms if you’re under18. (You must be able to sign your own name if you’re 18 or over.) (1) USASA Membership form (2) Alyeska Waiver and Release form (3) Big Alaska Waiver and Release form.

With your bib you can buy a discounted lift ticket, one flat rate for all competitors at the Alyeska ticket office at the day lodge. And Alyeska is going to roll Chair 3 early for Big Alaska competitors only so you can get in the park and practice!

2 runs, 4 hit minimum.

Helmets, snowsports certified, are required!

Official practice 10:30-11:00

Rider’s meeting 11:00—this is your opportunity to ask questions and throw away your Hi-Chew candy wrappers.

First runs 11:15 Last runs depend on how many competitors.

Randomly awarded door prizes after the competition—and USASA medals in each age group for 1st through 3rd places. Awards will take place approximately 1 hour after the last run (we have to get the judges’ scores into the computer).

$85 Full for this season. You get points from all the contests you enter and they count toward Nationals qualification.

OR $25 One Day. If you’ve been a USASA member in the past. You won’t get points but you will get to compete today. Not upgradeable! OR

Free One Day. If you’ve NEVER been a USASA member. You’ll get points if you upgrade to Full within 2 weeks of your first contest.

All ages and all abilities are welcome! Not only will you have fun, and develop your skills, we randomly award door prizes to competitors at the end of every competition. Since we are a small Series, everybody has a good chance of qualifying for USASA Nationals, which is the biggest and most inclusive snowboard celebration on the planet. We love skiers too. Meet snowboarders and skiers ages 3 -80 at Copper Mountain, Colorado.

Sunday, Jan 6, Slalom 1 and 2 on the Race Trail @ Alyeska. $20 each plus USASA membership fee. Registration in the day lodge 9:30-10:00 am. 1st runs 11:00 am. Qualify for Nationals (it only takes your 2 best finishes in a discipline) and hone your carving skills. You can do it.
